These are general sites for researching statistics on the Internet and provide a good starting place for researchers in this field. They lead to statistical information on a diverse range of specific topics as well as providing links to other useful sites both in Australia and overseas.
Australian sites
Australian Bureau of Statistics This site provides detailed information, statistical summaries, selected publications including the catalogue, annual reports, the ABS Yearbook and links to relevant external statistics websites. Some pages of interest are:
- Themes Selected information and statistics grouped in categories such as: Economy, Environment and Energy, Industry, People and Regional.
- Statistics on a range of topics including: Population, Tourism, Employment, Income and Inflation.
- Links to other Australian and International statistical sites.
Statistics Internet resources The Australian Parliamentary Library provides links to Australian, and some overseas, statistical sources on the Internet. It also includes a subject index.
www.gov.au A gateway that provides access to the information and services of the Australian, State, Territory and Local Governments. A good way to locate statistics for particular jurisdictions is to go to that government's home page and use the site search function.
Overseas statistical agencies
Some of the major overseas government statistical agencies, the equivalents of the Australian Bureau of Statistics, provide comprehensive, free information from national to local levels.
FedStats gateway is the United States portal to Federal Government agencies' statistics.
National statistics online provides statistics on the United Kingdom's economy, population and society at national and local level.
Eurostat is the European Union's statistical information service, and is also available in French and German language versions.
United Nations common database (UNCDB) provides selected series from numerous specialized international data sources.
